Museum

On its formation, the Trust took possession of a substantial collection of artefacts deposited over many years, mainly associated with the Ancient Order of Foresters. The museum when complete, will be arranged to present a structured display of items such as Court (branch) furniture, personal regalia, that is sashes, ribbons and collars, medals and jewels, framed items, including membership and past officer certificates, Dispensations (documents setting up new branches) and commemorative pieces. It will tell the story of the growth of an organisation, and what has been described as the most important working people's movement of the 19th century. From the collection, a selection of items can be seen on this website, with accompanying explanatory text. To bring up a gallery of available images, just click on any of the subject headings.
